How to Select Finials

Finials are the last touches to complete your new drapery hardware ensemble and the new look for your windows.

Remember, we told you to ensure to account for them when measuring for your rods.

Drapery rod finials can provide a strong decorative element, a finishing touch to your desired drapery hardware look. They can be as elaborate or as simple as you wish – the options are endless!

This step might just be the easiest in your drapery hardware journey, yet just as important as any of the other steps in your window furnishing journey.

Here are the general steps to selecting your rod finials:

  • Select the style/design you prefer which coordinates with the rest of your hardware, drapery panels, and décor.
  • Finial sizes vary greatly. A finial can have a length as small as 1.5 inches or as long as 9 inches.
  • Always ensure to account for the space required for the finials when measuring for curtain rod width, especially when space is limited or if there are perpendicular walls, furniture, lighting or architectural details that need to be taken into consideration.
  • Choose a quantity of two. Note that some manufacturers sell finials and end caps in pairs, so review the product specifications on each product’s page prior to adding them to your cart; this will avoid ending up with the incorrect quantity of finials.

CWF PRO TIP: When space is limited, opt for end caps instead! When space is very limited, often the best choice is end caps.  Whether plain or with a decorative element, end caps are a great option for tight spaces. With thickness or lengths ranging anywhere from 1/4 inch to 1 1/4 inches, they won’t add too much additional length to your rod, and thus fit easily in limited spaces.
